After a big thriller Agneepath producer Karan Johar is back with "Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu" which is a romantic comedy. It's director Shakun Batra's debut movie. Story and screen play is also done by him. This movie stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor together for the first time.
The movie is about Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan) and Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor). They both live in Las Vegas. Rahul is an architect who lost his job. He is an introvert and an uptight guy because of his dominating parents, his father (Boman Irani) who is strict and Rahul always struggles to meet his father's expectations His mother (Ratna Pathak) is a shallow socialite. Riana ia a hair stylist and she is also out of work. Riana is totally opposite to Rahul, extrovert and chilled out just like her family. They met by chance and after a misunderstanding they meet again on christmas eve. They get drunk and end up getting married. when they get up in the morning they realize about their mistake and decides to get their marriage annulled.
Kareena Kapoor is outstanding, her acting is natural and she takes her character to another level. In emotional scenes she take center stage and her acting is very believable. Her character could have been much similar to Geet in Jab We Met but her character of Riana is very different and she looks amazing as she always does.
Imran Khan surprises us with his performance. His performance is brilliant. He matches Kareen Kapoor's acting. His comic timing and straight face expressions are delightful. He plays his part really well. Kareena and Imran have a good chemistry.
The movie is really well shot that it does not look like a first time attempt. The writting is good and casting is perfect. The Hollywood influence is evident in the movie but the result it good so it is not a big deal. This is a different kind of movie.
The Music is given by Amit Trivedi. The title track Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is already making waves and is good for clubs. This song is cool and peppy. Gubbare is good for classy listeners. Aunty is sung by Ash King has a retro style. It's lyrics are naughty and funny. Aahatein is a slow romantic song. All the songs are situational. The music is not outstanding but it's definitely good.
It's an entertaining movie and grabs the audience from the biginning. Situational comedy is good and it keeps the audience engaged through out. And over all the movie is technically good.
