“I took inspiration from Kashaf, Umrao Jaan, and Mughal-e-Azam for Kalank.”
This has been said by one of the Bollywood’s best actresses of this time, Alia Bhatt. This new Indian movie has created a buzz already for its multi star cast and now this statement from the lead heroin has become the thing of the town. While promoting the film, Alia was asked about how she prepared for a role like this. To which she responded that the Director of the film, Abhishek Varman suggested her to watch the Pakistani super hit drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai, which had Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed in the lead roles. Even though Alia is playing a dancer from 1945 in the movie, her role had similarities with Sanam’s character as Kashaf. She added that Roop has responsibilities just like Kashaf had and this makes her a rather serious person throughout. Roop is just as vulnerable and strong. And so, she watched and took inspiration from our very favorite Sanam Saeed.
She also admitted to watching the classic Indian movies and Zindagi Gulzar Hai to help her with the gestures and language, since it is a pre-partition movie and she had to speak Urdu.
The news had been all over the internet and finally caught Sanam Saeed‘s attention. Sanam tweeted in gratitude and said that “If this isn’t made up news, I am tickled pink. Best wishes. Xx”
Well this is surely warming our hearts and making us even more proud of our stars. The movie releases on 17th April and we doubt any screening in Pakistan.
